Getting Started
HOW DO I BECOME A CHEMICAL ENGINEER? By going to university or college. To study the subject you should ideally have the three main science subjects as your cornerstone which are chemistry, mathematics and physics, though universities are, nowadays, quite flexible and should accept other related subjects also. However, it is advisable to consider mathematics as a 'must' strong point in your own mind as it is applied extensively in the profession.
WHERE DOES A CHEMICAL ENGINEER WORK? A chemical engineer generally works in a design office, which could be in a city or town or on site on a plant getting the bulk products made, whilst solving any technical problems associated with the manufacturing process.
WHAT ABOUT MANAGEMENT? Many management opportunities exist in chemical engineering with further avenues in sales and marketing. It may be true that a chemical engineer follows these routes if the desire is not to remain altogether technical for long. |
